From the Secretary's Desk

60 (Sixty) glorious years! A remarkable journey full of achievements, accomplishments and triumphs! The Diamond Jubilee of the HSNC Board is not only a great feat for the Board, but also a time to look back, remember with nostalgia and to introspect.

This Board was the creation of men of indomitable wills, courage and determination. Vidyasagar Professor K. M. Kundnani and Barrister Hotchand Advani were visionaries who refused to be cowed down by the bloodshed of the partition. Professor Kundnani came to the then Bombay with little else but his own firm resolve to found an educational institution here and a prized chair. After a lot of hard work he succeeded in getting the required piece of land on lease and in procuring financial aid, leading to the construction of the first college of the Board - R. D. National College in 1949.

Next on the anvil was the construction of the K. C. College in 1954 and after that there was no looking back as institutions of higher learning were created one after the other. Today the Board comprises of 27 institutions of higher learning. Professor Kundnani left us to cleave unto his maker, but others like him continued steering it to reach greater heights. The policy of the Board was to diversify into all branches of learning and thus we have institutions of Law, of Management, of Education, of Pharmacy and of Engineering apart from all our other colleges of Arts, Commerce and Science.

The Board epitomizes striving for excellence, reaching out to the stars but remaining grounded to reality. This philosophy is best illustrated in its logo, “Where Ideas come to life.” We have always believed in providing pivotal support to all our ventures, our faculty and our students. A visionary once said, “To accomplish great things we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe.” A lot of blood, sweat and toil has gone into each one of our ventures. We have tried to plan meticulously and provide world-class infrastructure to give the best education to our students. We are fortunate that our Board members are individuals of a progressive and learned mentality, who are also prestigious members of society.

In a rapidly global world, we have sought to expand and bring the best of opportunities to our students. We have forged significant tie-ups with esteemed foreign universities and our aim is to have foreign students come to our shores and interact with our students, giving international exposure to them. Indian students have always gone to western countries for higher education but the HSNC Board has tried to bring about the opposite. We aspire to create a social conscience in our students and have them become society and nation builders.

We will continue “To strive, to seek and not to yield”, so that we put our Board high up on the map of world education. As they say ‘Diamonds are forever’ and on its Diamond Jubilee, our Board is really a diamond that will forever glitter and sparkle with its own glory.

My Best Wishes to all. God Bless.

- Manju J. Nichani.
