The 17th
International Economics
Convention was hosted by K.
C. College from 17th – 19th
December, 2009. The theme
for the convention was
‘Public-Private Partnership
(PPP) in Development’, a
very contemporary topic. The
event was an academic and
intellectual one with 63
young minds from 9 different
colleges passionately
deliberating over topics
like health, education,
airports and disaster
management. K. C. College,
in addition to winning the
coveted first prize for
being the ‘Best Team’, swept
away two other top honors -
‘Best presentation’
and ‘Best paper’. The
Best speaker prize went to
R. D. National College,
while the ‘Best Q & A
session’ went to H. R.
College of Commerce &
Economics. The Chief Guest
for the Inaugural Ceremony
was Mr. Rajiv Lall, MD &
CEO, IDFC. The judges for
the event were Dr. Vivek
Patkar, leading Consultant,
Dr. (Mrs.) Jayati Sarkar,
Associate Professor in
Economics, IGIDR and Mr.
Dilip Karmarkar,
Vice-President, IL&FS. Ms.
Manju Nichani, Principal, K.
C. College, looked at this
event as a “rainbow of
students coming together,
sharing their experiences
and making it such an
enlightening session”. Mr.
Gul Kriplani, Managing
Director, Pijikay, Chief
Guest at the Valedictory
function said, “This is very
noble initiative which
encourages quality research
and imbibes latent talent
from the individual. PPP
encourages business models
which encourage social
results and orient their
strategies towards
earnings.” The baton was
passed by K. C. College to
Smt. C.H.M. College, which
will host the 18th
International Economics
Convention. |

Dr.
(Mrs.) Indu Shahani, Sheriff
of Mumbai and Principal of
H. R. College of Commerce
and Economics was
felicitated on 13th
December, 2009, on receiving
an Honorary Doctor of
Letters Degree from
University of Westminster in
London at Rama Watumull
Auditorium. Ms. Manju J.
Nichani read out the
Citation and Mr. Anil Harish
presented it to Dr. Shahani.
Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani
presented the Memento and
congratulated her for
receiving Honorary Doctor of
Letters. Mr. Hiranandani
said “Dr. (Mrs.) Indu
Shahani has not only
received double degree of
doctorate but also double
privileged for being the
Sheriff of Mumbai. She has
brought respect, honour and
feeling of goodness to the
whole teaching faculty by
getting such recognition.”
Dr. Shahani expressed her
extreme gratitude to be
felicitated on the day when
the chowk outside her
college was named after such
a renowned and respected
person ‘Vidyasagar Principal
K. M. Kundnani’. She
recalled that Principal K.
M. Kundnani taught me not
just academics but the
importance of extra
curricular activities in
life. She opined on the need
and requirement of higher
education in our nation by
saying “Higher education is
going to get a thrust in the
12th year plan. We are
moving from teachers
dominated model to students
empowered model and I am
proud to be the part of such
young, dynamic students who
inspired me to achieve such
recognitions worldwide.” |

Principal Khushiram Motiram
Kundnani for his prominent
contribution in the field of
education. “Vidyasagar
Principal K. M. Kundnani
Chowk” was inaugurated at
9.30 a.m. on Sunday, 13th
December, 2009, by Hon’ble
Shri. Milind Deora, MP. Smt.
Annie Shekhar, MLA and Dr.
(Mrs.) Indu Shahani, Sheriff
of Mumbai and Principal of
H. R. College of Commerce
and Economics were the Chief
Guests. Dr. Kshirsagar, Dy.
Municipal Commissioner,
Zone-I and Shri. Sunil
Dhamne, Asst. Commissioner,
‘A’ Ward, Brihanmumbai
Mahanagar Pallika were the
Guests of Honour. The
inauguration event was
presided by Shri. Vinod
Shekhar, Municipal
Corporator. On a Sunday
morning the chowk was
flooded with members, staff
and students to pay due
respect to Vidyasagar
Principal K. M. Kundnani.
Millions of students from
his institutions have
received education and have
acquired prominent positions
in banks, insurance
companies, big corporate
offices, multinationals not
only in India but all over
the world. By setting up
various institutions and
providing quality education
to the students, Vidyasagar
Principal K. M. Kundnani has
done memorable work. |

16th International Economic
Convention |

The 16th
International Economic
Convention was held from
18th - 20th December, 2008
at R. D. National College &
W. A. Science College
Campus. The topic of
discussion was “Global
Warming and Climate Change”.
There were several
participants from different
institutes all over the city
as well as abroad. The event
was interactive and
informative. |

Diamond Jubilee celebrations
begin with the blessings of
Revered Dada J. P. Vaswani |

To
commemorate the Diamond
Jubilee year, an interactive
session of the students with
the Spiritual Guru, Revered
Dada J. P. Vaswani was
hosted at Meera Watumull
Auditorium, Bandra, on 11th
December, 2008. All the
Members of the Executive
Committee and several
students from all the
Board’s colleges came,
participated in the session
and took Dada’s blessings. |
